Black History Month

Bessie Coleman - Bessie was the first African-American woman to obtain an international pilot’s license, soaring new heights that Black people in the United States had never reached before.  Bessie also learned French and lived in France for a while.  While living in France she studied stunt flying and became a daredevil of the sky.  She was then known as Brave Bessie.  Bessie could be found doing loops, barrel rolls and figure 8s in her plane.  She would even walk on the wings and parachute out of her plane.  Her courageous feats of flights have inspired Black women pilots who came after her to journey into the sky.
