November - Native American Heritage Month

Today we recognize John Herrington.  In 2002, as a member of the 16th United States shuttle mission, Herrington became the first enrolled member of a Native American tribe to fly in space. Mr. Herrington was born on September 14, 1958 in the Chickasaw Nation, a federally recognized Native American Tribe in Oklahoma.  During his 13-day trip in space, Astronaut Herrington carried the tribal flag of his nation.

**Students make sure to be caught reading at appropriate times in your classroom.  This Friday we will do a drawing for a free book.
