February is Black History Month
John Lewis- Growing up John faced racial discrimination and he did not like it. He fought for equality marching alongside Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.. He showed his determination sitting on the bus seats during the Freedom Rides and entered the halls of Congress to battle civil liberties. John is most known for marching across the bridge and leading 600 people across the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama. His efforts eventually led to the signing of the Voting Rights Acts of 1965.
Today's Fun Fact:
Did you know that on this day in 1870, Utah gave women the right to vote? Utah was only the second state to do so.
