Black History Month
Amanda Gorman - At 22 years old Amanda Gorman became the youngest inaugural poet in US History. Amanda recited her poem “The Hill We Climb” that called for all Americans to “rebuild, reconcile, and recover” from deeply rooted divides and racial inequalities, particularly during a time of unprecedented illness, death, political strife and calls for radical justice across the country. Amanda was named the Youth Poet Laureate of Los Angeles at age 16 and at age 19 she became the first national Your Poet Laureate while siding sociology at Harvard. She attributes her success to poets who came before her, one specifically Maya Angelou.
